We are so excited to announce our upcoming missions trip to Zimbabwe and we hope that you will consider joining us!
As you may know, after two trips to visit the area and build relationships, we have established a long-term partnership with Children’s Cup and Celebration Church in the community of Sauerstown, Bulawayo. This will be our first trip really focused on serving and building on the incredible work they are doing there. With unemployment rates in the area at 80-90%, poverty has taken a heavy toll on its precious people. Some families even live on the city dump and many of the kids’ only meal is the one they receive through the Children’s Cup feeding program. We have been given the incredible opportunity through this partnership to really make a difference in the lives of the people of this community both on this trip and long term.
OVERVIEW
We will be visiting the care points, training, equipping and empowering local pastors and leaders, participating in kids’ programs with games and activities, helping with the feeding programs, leading midweek and weekend services, and serving on outreaches to the community meeting a variety of needs. We will also be visiting an area called “the Hideout” where nearly 100 people- many children and single mothers- live in an abandoned motel without even the most basic needs such as food, running water or electricity.
After five incredible & intensive days of ministry together, we will also get to experience a beautiful African safari and sunset cruise at the majestic Victoria Falls! This will also be an important chance to pray and process all that we’ve experienced together as we’ve served. SCHEDULE
Here is a rough itinerary of what our trip will likely look like (please keep in mind this is subject to change as needs arise within the ministries we will be working with):
- Mon May 27th: Depart for Africa, via Johannesburg.
- Tue 28th: Arrive in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe! Meet the team.
- Wed 29th - Fri 31st : Training local pastors and leaders; feeding kids in the schools; midweek church services; feeding project at The Hideout; working bee at the future property in Sauerstown; visit existing projects; and help with Kids Clubs
- Sat Jun 1st : Outreach in Sauerstown at the property; food & activities for the community on site; evening service at How Mine.
- Sun 2nd: Church services at Sauerstown, helping with ministry, worship and more.
- Mon 3rd: Tour Victoria Falls; sunset cruise; celebration dinner; staying the night at the beautiful Kingdom Hotel.
- Tue 4th: Chobe Safari; last night in Victoria Falls
- Wed 5th: Team Debrief; Shopping; Depart Africa
- Thu 6th: Arrive NYC am (or other country of origin)
NEXT STEPS
If you’re interested, the first step is to begin the application process. Your trip cost will include airfare, travel insurance, accommodations, food, ground transportation, etc., and the Victoria Falls experience. Not included are your personal shopping, and passports or vaccinations should you need them. A medical release from a physician will also be required.
Three accommodation options are available (from least to most expensive):
1. Missions house - the most cost effective; for those comfortable with sharing rooms and very basic accommodations, without AC
2. Twin share hotel - for those who wish to stay in a hotel with more privacy and more modern facilities including AC, two to a room
3. Single occupancy hotel - your own room in a hotel with more privacy and more modern facilities including AC
COSTS
Please keep in mind that though our ground costs are set, airfare is always subject to change and we will not know the exact amount until flights are booked. Also, airfares are indicate below from NYC so if you are joining us from another city please research options with our help (arriving in BUQ and departing from VFA). Of course, we are working hard to ensure that we get the very best possible price on everything. ** please understand costs are subject to change
