We’re so excited that sign ups for the new season of Community Groups start TODAY! Community Groups are an excellent way to get plugged in at Liberty Church. From book studies to cooking classes to discovering how to better connect during worship, there’s a group for everyone across all three Liberty communities.
Nina Sigler first came to Liberty on Easter Sunday of 2013. In just 12 quick months, she has become an integral part of our church and poured so much of her heart and hard work into the Liberty community. I sat down with Nina to chat about how she found her place thanks to community groups.
When did you decide to join a Community Group?
I joined a Community Group the first opportunity I could, because I was eager to meet people and make friends. I joined two book studies; Supernatural Ways of Royalty and Heavy Rain. The next season I did Single in the City, and this past season I’m keeping it lighthearted in My Life is Fun and Elements of Praise.
What was it like joining a group for the first time?
I expected to make friends I could socialize with and occasionally sit with at church with. I thought I’d learn more about God so I could have a personal relationship with Him. But at the end of the community group season, my expectations exceeded beyond what I could’ve imagined. My relationship with God is more intimate than it’s ever been, and I’ve made friendships that will last a lifetime.
Can you remember a time in a Community Group when you realized you had grown or changed?
One night in my Single in the City group, we had an assignment to make a list of 10 things we “must have” and 10 things we “can’t stand” in a husband. As I made my list, I realized how much I had changed on the inside. My desires weren’t just my desires; they reflected God’s desires and the promises he has for me. My priorities had shifted from being me centered to bring God centered for the first time in my life.
How has being in a Community Group challenged you?
In every way. It’s a way to be held accountable to fellowship and prayer. It challenges you to look at your life and see how much of God is left at church on Sunday and how much he stays in your life. It holds you accountable to seeking God and developing a relationship with Him every day of the week.
What advice would you give someone who’s thinking about joining a Community Group but isn’t sure?
Trust God. DO IT NOW. Liberty Community Groups are hands down the best social outlet I’ve found since I moved to New York. Good people from all walks of life come together and meeting once a week, on a foundation of love. It’s hard to be in New York and make REAL friends and thats EXACTLY what I’ve found with Liberty.
Sign ups for our next season of Community Groups start today, May 18th. Check out the groups and sign up here!
