When women grow together in community, the result is sisterhood: a catalyst for finding personal and spiritual freedom. Lead Pastor Andi Andrew described our last meeting where women shared stories of freedom by stating, “We as women either consciously or subconsciously give each other permission to be free by paving a way, or showing the way to one another.” Angela Null of our Union Square community has personally experienced the impact of women, in different seasons of life, loving and challenging each other. “One of the most encouraging experiences for me has been to say out loud what I know in my heart to be true, and then to have the women around me confirm that vision or that calling on my life and proceed to support me and hold me accountable to that pursuit.” Having that support has helped shape the ideal of a free woman for Angela. “I think of someone who is graceful in her strength and comfortable in her weakness. I think of a woman who knows her boundaries and leaps intentionally within them.” She admits that her first experience at Liberty Sisterhood was like walking into a room full of “happy.” But after unsuccessfully searching for “the catch,” she discovered the best of Liberty Church: a gathering of women passionate about walking through life together. Angela is particularly excited about Sarah Dubbeldam’s visit. This past spring, she and Trish Archuleta led a community group based on Darling Magazine called “The Art of Being a Woman.” “We had an open forum where people could ask whatever was on their hearts. The questions asked were so honest and free of fear of judgment and the responses were equally beautiful: genuine, supportive, and bold.” Darling’s mission is to be a catalyst for positive change, to redirect popular representations of women that are destructive, and to lead women “to discover beauty apart from vanity, influence apart from manipulation, style apart from materialism, sweetness apart from passivity, and womanhood without degradation.” Sarah Dubbeldam founded the magazine, envisioning a new voice for femininity that encompasses the virtue, wit, modesty, and wisdom of women.

Sarah’s story resonates with Angela, a “forever learner” who works at New York University, but thinks of herself as “an aspiring social entrepreneur.” “What inspires me most about Sarah Dubbeldam is that she had a vision and a dream and she gave it the best wings she could, took a huge leap of faith, and went as far as she could. Now Darling Magazine and the movement attached to it are inspiring and emboldening women everywhere. When I look through Darling Magazine, I feel creative and alive and part of something bigger and more beautiful than I could have ever dreamed up.” You can purchase a ticket for the event here. There is a $15.00 early bird discount rate through August 17, $20.00 regular price after that, and $25.00 at the door. See you at Scholastic Theater, 557 Broadway, on September 5!
