New Possibilities: We go first for the many who come after us

No Comments 29 December 2024

seedphotoThe new year rings in this week, and Paul and Andi have cast vision for 2015—investing in New Cities and missions partnerships, New Ministries in church life, New Strength in the communities we’ve planted in Brooklyn and Zimbabwe, and New Possibilities for purchasing permanent property in New York City.

There are only a couple days left to sow into the 2014 Seed Offering, for Liberty Church to reach our giving goal and for individuals to have their tax-deductible giving on their 2014 giving statement.

Around our city, we see the rich history of magnificent church buildings that were purchased with people’s tithes and offerings but that are being reused for different purposes in this generation. “We’re looking to turn that around,” Paul said in Sunday’s service. That’s why we’re devoting part of our Seed Offering to unlocking new possibilities for doors that can stay open through the week to change people’s lives.

These are exciting times for us as a church, and an opportunity for each person who supports Liberty to sow what won’t last forever into what will.

Paul says, “If we give flippantly or haphazardly, we miss the opportunity to do it as a call…to keep the faith in giving.” As investors in missions and church planting, we’re putting faith in the future God has called us to and investing our natural resource in something that is eternal. “We go first for the many who come after us. We go first for the generations to come.”

Watch the video below to hear Paul and Andi explain the vision for investing in New Possibilities. And click the button below if you’d like to take part in this year’s Seed Offering.

Christmas Meditations

Merry ChristmasPsalm 72:10–14

10 Let the kings of Tarshish and the faraway lands
bring him gifts.
Let the kings of Sheba and Seba
bring their presents to him.
11 Let all kings bow down to him
and all nations serve him.

12 He will help the poor when they cry out
and will save the needy when no one else will help.
13 He will be kind to the weak and poor,
and he will save their lives.
14 He will save them from cruel people who try to hurt them,
because their lives are precious to him.

O Holy Night, from Placide Cappeau’s poem, translated from the French.

The Redeemer has broken every bond:

The Earth is free, and Heaven is open.

He sees a brother where there was only a slave,

Love unites those that iron had chained.

Who will tell Him of our gratitude,

For all of us He is born, He suffers and dies…

The entire world thrills with hope

On this night that gives it a Saviour.

Psalm 65:8

8 The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders;
where morning dawns, where evening fades,
you call forth songs of joy.

Isaiah 9:6

6 For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Psalm 72:3–8

3 Let there be peace on the mountains
and goodness on the hills for the people.
4 Help him be fair to the poor
and save the needy
and punish those who hurt them.

5 May they respect you as long as the sun shines
and as long as the moon glows.
6 Let him be like rain on the grass,
like showers that water the earth.
7 Let goodness be plentiful while he lives.
Let peace continue as long as there is a moon.

8 Let his kingdom go from sea to sea,
and from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earth.

Micah 5:2, 4b–5

2 “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
though you are too small to be among the army groups from Judah,
from you will come one who will rule Israel for me.
He comes from very old times,
from days long ago.”

“…his greatness will reach all over the earth.
5 He will bring peace.”

Merry Christmas 2014 to you! We pray that you would experience all the love, joy, peace, wonder, goodness, and light in celebrating the birth of our king this holiday.

New Ministries: Strength at Home and Gifts Overflowing

No Comments 23 December 2024

seedphotoIn last year’s Seed Offering, Liberty Church along with their partners raised $250,000 to invest in missions and in the core strengths of our church at home. These strengths include:

  • Liberty Sisterhood, which strengthens and empowers the women of our church to walk in freedom,
  • Visionaries, which equips and enables the businesspeople of our church to make a difference in their workplace and propel life-changing initiatives through our church, and
  • Pastoral Care, which supports the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of people in our community.

You can hear how these ministries have grown in strength this past year as a result of your generosity in this video. But our hope is that the Seed Offering “is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God” (2 Corinthians 9:12). We are blessed to be a blessing.

This year we have New Ministries set to begin with She is Free, a women’s conference that will extend the gift of freedom to women in New York City and beyond; The Company, which will gather them men of our church to be sharpened by the company of other men; and The Exchange, a roundtable for urban church planters to collaborate and be the Church in cities across the world.

Watch the video below to hear from Paul and Andi how giving in this year’s Seed Offering will fuel New Ministries in 2015.

Wisdom from Biju Thampy

No Comments 21 December 2024

In the Light of Eternity 2“How do I find God’s will for my life? Surrender your life to serve God’s greater purpose for humanity, and in that you will find God’s will for your life.”

“Open your eyes and look at life in the light of eternity…Your priorities and preferences change. The whole list will topple. Survival will not be a top priority, revival of souls will be a top priority.”

“I believe the purpose of church in the world right now is the purpose of God in our generation.”

“You can live for something greater than yourself. You can live a life that’s larger than life.”

Liberty Church was honored to have Biju Thampy from Vision Rescue with us on December 14th. His message on “Living in the Light of Eternity” still resonates with many of us, especially as we turn our focus to missions this month. We wanted to share a few gems from his message.

In speaking of his heart for missions and the hundreds of millions in India who have not heard the name of Jesus, Biju says, “How do we get the darkness out? By bringing the light in!”

Biju“Two things distract us from living in the light of eternity: The good things in life and the bad things in life…When you look at life through the eyes of eternity, the good things become rubbish (Philippians 3:7–10) and the bad things become light and momentary (2 Corinthians 4:17)”

Through Vision Rescue, Biju works with some of the poorest communities in India, meeting practical needs including nutrition, education, and medical programs, along with networking more than 3000 churches that they’ve planted.

Liberty Church raising the future leaders of Zimbabwe

No Comments 20 December 2024

Our growing Liberty Church Zimbabwe community is making an impact in the lives of families and building up the next generation of leaders. Watch Richard’s story.

In Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, projects are already underway for developing the campus and care point, training staff, and meeting needs in the community. Yet there is a great need for new leadership development programs, continuing the construction of the communities center, and supporting Gethin and Bex as our first full-time missionaries.

New Strength—Sustainability and Empowerment

No Comments 16 December 2024

seedphotoWe are a church-planting church, and we want to see all the communities we plant to flourish. It is crucial that we support our newest communities in Brooklyn and Zimbabwe as they become sustainable and strong. Together we will enable continued health and growth by investing strategically in our leadership, ministries, and facilities.

The promise in Genesis 12 that we are blessed to be a blessing means there is a purpose to our enrichment. 2 Corinthians 9:11 says, You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

Each December during our Seed Offering, Liberty Church sees the fantastic results of what we can do through our collective generosity when we give sacrificially. And by partnering with God, we have seen the difference our giving has made in New York City and beyond. On Sunday, Paul Andrew asked each of us to give sacrificially toward this year’s Seed Offering to support the strength and sustainability of our new church plants. “It doesn’t matter if your part is $50 or $50,000. Ask the Holy Spirit, ‘What would you have me give?'”

In Brooklyn, which was planted in January 2014, we have seen continued growth with nearly 300 guest cards from new people connecting with our church. Justin and Kristen Tarsiuk with their son Rocco also joined our pastoral staff to oversee the Brooklyn Community. And the Brooklyn Community has been fully involved across all ministries of our church.

In Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, projects are already underway for developing the campus and care point, developing staff, and meeting needs in the community. Yet there is a great need for new leadership development programs, continuing the construction of the communities center, and supporting Gethin and Bex as our first full-time missionaries.

Watch the video below to find out how you can be a part of supporting the longterm health of these two communities.
