In the summer of 2010, Paul and Andi Andrew moved to New York City from Sydney, Australia to pioneer Liberty Church. The first gatherings were around a picnic table in Central Park as they studied the birth of the church in the book of Acts, and prayed over our vision to influence a city that influences the world.
So it was a great celebration when we launched our weekly Downtown services in the Tribeca Cinemas on January 31st, 2011. Later the same year we planted a second community, this time in Union Square. Each new community began with the same vision and values but also with local pastors whose passion was to reach and serve their neighborhood. Today there are four Liberty communities across Manhattan and Brooklyn and we hope to establish more both locally and globally.
Along the way we’ve started a number of outreaches including Liberty City which serves our neighborhoods “for the greater good”, as well as Liberty Foundation which invests hundreds of thousands of dollars each year in planting local churches globally. And as we continue to care for those who call Liberty Church home, we’ve seen ministries grow for men and women, for our business community and many more.
Liberty is a non-denominational church and though our style is contemporary, our theology is traditional. We’re part of the Association of Related Churches, a network that has helped launch more than 500 new churches across the US.
We’ve come a long way since that picnic table in Central Park, and there’s room for you at the table. We hope you’ll join us and be a part of his unfolding story at Liberty Church.
