10 Things We Love About Union Square

No Comments 12 October 2024

When we were praying about locations for Liberty Church’s second community in NYC, Union Square was definitely one near the top of our list. With its easy access from anywhere in the city and diversity at every corner (literally), we couldn’t be more excited to now call Union Square our new gathering place.

So here are some of our favorite features of this historic Manhattan intersection.

Farmers Market.
One of the most frequented events in Union Square is the Union Square Greenmarket, where you can find a nearly endless variety of local foods and products from hundreds of vendors. The market is held on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 8am to 6pm.

The Art.
From the statues to the architecture to the metronome clock, Union Square is home to some of the most unique art in the city. While we may never know if there’s some sort of secret meaning behind the numbers of the metronome, it’s at least fun to look at!

Grey Dog’s.
Grey’s Dogs, located on 90 University Place, is a great spot to grab coffee or a quick meal with friends. They have an impressive menu and a comfortable, rustic vibe - perfect for either a Saturday afternoon brunch or a late-night bite mid-week.

The Shopping.
Who needs a shopping mall when you have the stores of Union Square? Whether you need groceries (Whole Foods), shoes (DSW), or a new television (Best Buy), the square has just about every store you could need within a few blocks radius.

The Location.
Union Square is a transportation hub - a subway stop for 7 different lines that lead to most of Manhattan and into Brooklyn, which makes it one of the easiest destinations to get to in the city. And, well, that can be pretty helpful when you don’t have a car - take it from us.

Green Scenery.
It’s easy to get lost in grey when living in or visiting the concrete jungle, and Union Square park provides that little escape into nature…even if it’s just about 6 acres-worth.

Max Brenner.
Located on 841 Broadway (between 13th and 14th Streets), Max Brenner is a restaurant and specialty shop that revolves around chocolate. Need we say more?

New York Film Academy.
…and we’re not just saying that because it’s home to Liberty Church Union Square! The NYFA is a world-renowned film and acting school with program locations throughout the world. We’ve got to say - it’s pretty cool to have our 2nd community held where so many pioneers of the film industry have stepped foot.

It’s where people come to be seen and heard.
Whether it’s to give free hugs, play an impromptu concert with your new band, or dress up in a banana suit…in Union Square, just about anything goes. And, in a city where it’s easy to get caught up in doing and saying all the right things, we like that Union Square celebrates people who think and act outside of the box.

It’s the melting pot of NYC.
On that same note, Union Square is a place where people from all different boroughs, backgrounds, and walks of life seem to collide. It’s that diversity in itself that makes Union Square a destination of its own in NYC.

Not to mention that Liberty Church has Sunday services right in Union Square. If you’re looking for a church or community in NYC, we’d love for you to join us! Our Union Square community meets at 7pm on Sunday evenings, or you could visit our Sunday 11am service at Tribeca Cinemas.

No Comments 07 October 2024

Since September we’ve been one church with two communities. Every Sunday we gather at Tribeca and Union Square… but we can never forget that we’re one church together.

So four times a year we plan to gather for a combined service, and our very first one is on Sunday October 23rd… “One Church, Two Communities“.

We’re going to meet at the New York Film Academy in Union Square at 7pm. A Liberty Kids program will be provided and it’ll be a fun night for your kids.

PLEASE NOTE ** There will be NO 11am Service at Tribeca just for this week.

Our prayer is that we’ll pack out the room and stand together as ONE church, in ONE place for ONE cause.

Don’t miss this important moment as we unite… One Church, Two Communities.

It’s Time For Your Breakthrough: New Series

No Comments 05 October 2024

We’re launching a new teaching series on Sundays throughout October called “It’s Time For Your Breakthrough“.

Our God is referred to in the Bible as “the God of the breakthrough” (2Sam5:20 NKJV).

Our prayer is that as we teach this month about the principles of breakthrough, that individuals in our church would experience personal breakthroughs, and that we as a church would take new ground together.

Don’t miss a week! Paul, Andi & Sebastian will be teaching at both Tribeca and Union Square communities across the series.

Highlights: The Launch of Liberty Sisterhood

No Comments 05 October 2024

On Thursday September 29, a host women of all different ages and backgrounds gathered for what would be the first of many Liberty Sisterhood gatherings.

The gathering was at Tribeca Cinemas in NYC, and after almost three hours of preparing and decorating the venue, guests arrived to what looked more like a glamorous lounge than a movie theater.

From 7:30 to 8pm the ladies mingled over cookies, brownies, and little pink lemonade “mocktails,” which were served by some of the men on our team (Ed: and yes, the men dressed up for it!).

There was also a photoshoot area set up for the ladies to take some fun pictures with friends.

One of the most exciting parts of the evening was that we were able to collect donations to sent to WIN - Women in Need. WIN is an organization that rehibilitates homeless mothers, and we were thrilled to contribute new products to aid these mothers and their children.

When 8pm rolled around, it was time to head to our seats to start the evening with worship. With barely any men in the building, Tribeca Cinemas was filled with the sound of just us women collectively lifting our praise up to God.

After an introduction from her husband Paul, Andi Andrew took the stage to begin the night’s message. Andi shared her heart about what Liberty Sisterhood means to her and why she felt called to lead what is most-certainly not “just another womens’ ministry.”

Tonight is a “seed in the ground” sort of night, a night where a story begins to unfold and you are a part of it…

Andi’s message focused on the theme, “now it’s your turn.” She encouraged us as women to come together as one to show this city what the love of God looks like and to bring that freedom through our lives.

Countless women have gone before us…they have paved a way…carved out a path…they have stood for salvation, truth, justice and freedom. Women who have fed the poor and loved the unlovable…now it’s your turn.

To Andi, the way to do this is quite simple, but not always easy: it’s by saying YES to God. Whether it’s reaching out to someone who seems like they need a shoulder to cry on or bringing a homeless women to a shelter, “the love of God can move through each of our lives when we are wholly and completely submitted and yielded to Him.”

The message left each and every person in the building feeling inspired, blessed, and excited to see the amazing ways God is going to use the Liberty Sisterhood to impact NYC.

So many people are going without a meal, shelter, freedom or love…and we can extend our hand with all of those things and bring justice and Gods love into their world.

The evening was closed by the worship team playing Leeland’s “Love Is On The Move” while a video with photos of the Liberty Sisters played in the background. It was the pefect ending to a night that was only the beginning of things to come.

Liberty Sisterhood is going to meet 4 times a year; gatherings that will continue to build new friendships, provide the Word of God, and further the vision of going out into this city to spread God’s love and help those in need. For more info or any questions email info@libertychurchnyc.com.
