All Team Leader Spotlight: Trish Archuleta

It has been just about a year since I started serving as Connections Leader at our Union Square Community. It has been a year of stretching and learning, but also the most rewarding year of my life. Prior to taking over our Connections team, I had been serving on our Events team at Union Square for a short period of time. When I started attending Liberty Church, I had never before been in a position of serving. To be completely honest, I had never been in an environment where it was suggested, presented and encouraged the way it is in our church. I spent my first few months flying under the radar, hoping that the people around me wouldn’t notice that I was seemingly the only one not serving. (This may be an exaggeration, but you get the point.) Liberty Church is a church that moves forward and we do it together, as a team. I think I had served 2 or 3 Sundays on Events, when I attended my first All Team meeting. I left changed. The next day, I texted my team leader and asked her to make sure I was scheduled for every Sunday going forward; I was “all-in”. At what was to be my first of many All Team meetings, I realized what was waiting for me on the other side of serving. It was an opportunity to be a part of something greater than myself; it was to build myself into a life-giving community. It was a chance to do my part to reach someone that was not here yet, and the fastest way to cultivate friendships that would carry me through the ever-changing seasons that we all go through. I read a book recently by Pastor Steven Furtick, called “Greater”. In his book, he says, “Whatever God is asking you to do today is the greatest thing you can be doing at that moment.” He goes on to illustrate often how greater things can look very ordinary and day-to-day, but the simple act of showing up and being obedient sets us up for a move of God. Wherever you are currently serving or will end up serving (after your own “all- in” moment) may not look like very much. Actually, it will likely look like hard, unglamorous work, but doing your part sets the stage for an incredible move of God. My favorite thing about Liberty Church is the relationships I have formed through serving beside others. It is the most rewarding part of serving, in my opinion; community will change your life. What I have learned while serving as Connections Leader has overflowed into every other aspect of my life. I am better at my day job because I have learned what it is like to work well with people each Sunday. I am better at relationships because serving requires me to communicate with many people, openly and often. Above all else, I am better in my relationship with Christ, because on days where I don’t feel like serving, or showing up, or staying at my post, He reminds me that He has asked me to serve faithfully right now, and that is the greatest thing I can be doing today. See you at All Team!
