Three months from now, Liberty Church is launching our third community in New York City. Sunday services will start on January 19 in the heart of downtown Brooklyn. And Liberty Church Brooklyn offers YOU the opportunity to start the journey with us from the beginning. Our next launch team meeting is this Thursday, October 3 at Holstee at 7:30pm. We will be hearing exciting updates from our core team and practical ways you can help.
What does it mean to be part of a church community before it has started? It means extending the reach of what God is doing through Liberty Church to an entirely different population. In the words of Lead Pastor and Brooklyn Community Pastor, Paul Andrew, “Everything is not going to be copy and paste. It wasn’t for Union Square, so why would it be for Brooklyn or London, for that matter?”
More importantly, Liberty Church Brooklyn invites people to become planted in our church and experience new levels of involvement and personal growth. “Brooklyn is going to be our biggest test yet. We can’t just borrow people. We have to build again,” Paul explains. “This creates the need for more team leaders. More opportunities for more people to serve and take the lead. The journey starts now. People could be discovering new dreams and talents from the beginning. That’s key. You don’t get that again.” We get to imagine Liberty Church, just more…Brooklyn, and build it together.
As the most populous borough in the city, Brooklyn yields a harvest of possibilities, of diversity, of generations. Three years ago, Liberty Church was starting from scratch in similar circumstances, but already our Brooklyn community has a sizable launch team, an endorsement on the Association of Related Churches’ website, a head start with funding from last December’s Seed Offering, and the experience of planting two other thriving communities with the calling to be a church-planting church.
