21 Days of Prayer + Fasting: Ivana’s Story

No Comments 21 January 2025

From January 13 - February 2 the leadership of Liberty has invited the church to join in 21 days of Prayer and Fasting. This has become a family tradition at Liberty Church, as we seek God at the beginning of the year for personal and collective breakthrough. Our leadership team believes in the importance of fasting, as it is a biblical principle practiced by Jesus.

We recently asked via social media for YOUR stories of what these 21 days of Prayer and Fasting look like in your own life, and the breakthrough you’ve been experiencing so far.

Here’s Ivanna’s story of what she’s experiences so far from Prayer and Fasting.

I felt God urging me to start my fast as soon as possible, so I started the Daniel Fast January 1st. I’m so glad I obeyed, as I’ve experienced tons of grace in so many different areas of my life.

My family was really supportive of me, even though they thought I would fail. We’re big meat-eaters, but they actually understood why I was doing it and didn’t give me much grief about it. They even had some vegan dishes prepared on occasion!

I’ve also been working on eliminating debt from my life, and in 2014 I am now completely credit card debt free.

I found myself actually talking to my friends and coworkers about the Daniel Fast after they noticed that my “meatless Mondays” became meatless weeks. Now a coworker and good friend are fasting with me. I even shared the book by Pastor Franklin with my coworker.

I previously was suffering from bad insomnia. Once I gave up coffee for the fast, I got my sleep back. Praise Him! Given my lack of sleep, waking up to have quiet time with God was not feasible. Since the 18th, God has consistently woken me up without alarm so I could spend time with Him. Yea… for real.

I was able to become a gym member at an affordable price at a gym I love. I felt the peace of God and His grace when I translated for the first time ever at the Brooklyn Launch on the 19th.

These are just some stories. I haven’t fasted since high school, and I’m so glad I decided to participate. Since I started on the 1st I’ll end the Daniel Fast tomorrow, but I’ll be continuing to fast my time and coffee til the end of the corporate fast. I can’t wait to see what else God will do before the end of the month!

Fasting is a partnership made with God to show Him that we hunger and thirst first and foremost for more of Him. It is outward evidence of our inward love for Him. It is not an ancient practice reserved only for the radical Christians. This is a lifestyle for all of Jesus’s disciples who desire His presence to be increased in their lives.

Feel free to share your story of how 21 days of Prayer and Fasting has changed your life so far!
