The Visionaries Retreat is scheduled for November 14th – 15th in Tarrytown, NY. Registrations for the retreat sold out in less than two weeks, but we’ve negotiated with the venue to open up more space. We’re also delighted to announce another of our guest speakers.
Scott Harrison, founder of the nonprofit charity : water, began tackling the most life-threatening issues facing humanity by finding simple ways to provide a basic need where it could make a difference.
Scott’s own story is one of transformation, from a hollow career in the nightclub promotion industry in New York City to a heart breaking for people suffering in the developing world for lack of clean water. Beginning with $30,000 in personal debt, Scott was struck with the dream to start a charity that would stand by the promise that 100% of donated money would go directly to projects in the field.
Scott’s incredible turnaround gave him the audacity to believe in the transformation that was possible in local communities through water. “Water changes everything,” proclaims charity : water’s website. By providing a sustainable solution, Scott witnesses again and again the economic return of each charity : water investment—providing healthier and safer communities, enabling businesses to spring up, improving education, strengthening families, freeing women and children, and preventing the spread of disease in places where medical care and resources are scarce.
There are 800 million people in the world—one in nine—without access to clean water. But this was not a statistic to Scott: “This is about people, who because of where they are born, have no hope.” Moreover, Scott had faith that this was a “solvable problem” and used his business acumen to:
- Build a brand that changed current views about giving to charity
- Find sponsors and work through local partners
- Utilize technology to draw attention to his cause
- Stand by the organization’s goals of transparency and integrity
- Invent ways to use social media to bring statistics to life
- Create a model for event promotion that empowered fundraising
Scott joins the lineup along with the retreat’s keynote speaker, Kris Vallotton (speaker, author, and senior associate leader of Bethel Church) and our Lead Pastor Paul Andrew. We will be announcing another amazing speaker later this week.
Visionaries is the business community of Liberty Church and we exist to equip, encourage, and enable those in our church whose primary sphere of influence is in their marketplace or industry. We hold gatherings throughout the year including our annual retreat to help people realize their personal dreams and goals through collaboration, prayer, and knowledge sharing while at the same time empowering the vision of Liberty Church to go above and beyond what we would be capable of otherwise.
