New York City is notoriously known as the place where young adults flock to to learn more, start a career, and share their voices. That’s why at Liberty Church we always had the vision to have a ministry for college students - a community where the next generation can gather and grow together.
The Society Room launched in September of 2011 and is led by Chad Rodriguez. Here’s a brief rundown from Chad of what The Society Room is all about and how you can get involved.
What is The Society Room?
It is a gathering of university students from all over NYC. We were pioneered out of the heart of Liberty Church, with a desire to see our stories intersect with the city around us. We’ve come from all over the U.S. and the world to a city bigger than we could imagine. Our hope is that as we explore our talents through the lens of our faith that we’ll be able to give back to the city that we gain so much from; to explore our passions and use them to help others.
When and where do the gatherings take place?
Gatherings are held every month on the 1st Friday of the month. For 2012 we plan to have a gathering at each university. For the start of the year they will be held at Columbia, NYU, and The Kings College. Our hope is to involve more colleges as they get involved with the heartbeat of Liberty Church.
What do The Society Room gatherings look like?
Each gathering will have a few things in common, apart from different venues. The evenings will include a time of worship, prayer, a message from Scripture, and the opportunity to give. Also, at each of these nights we will have an “industry leader” come and share about their faith and how it plays a part in the work that they do. It will be great for students to hear from and connect with CEO’s, marketing guru’s, writers, actors, various creatives and so on. There will also be a time of networking, which is why we will have the gatherings at different universities. The hope is that students share their stories, and out of that could come future businesses, partnerships, screenplays, bands, etc. Who knows…the sky is the limit!
