At Liberty Church, we believe that God’s heart is for cities. That is why we’re so happy to welcome Pastor Biju Thampy, the founder of of Vision Rescue in India.
In Mumbai, a city of over 24 million people, Vision Rescue’s mission is to “empower people to find their purpose, enjoy their rights and live with dignity.” With 300,000 homeless kids in Mumbai, the realization that every one person matters to God is overwhelming. Yet Biju made the decision, “If I could make a difference in the life of ‘one’ of these kids…I would do it!”
In 2004, he started Vision Rescue to meet practical needs including nutrition, education, and medical programs, along with networking more than 3000 churches they’ve planted in urban areas throughout India.
“Little did I know what I was putting my foot into, regarding the deep waters of the needs and challenges of the city of Mumbai. Though the images of the children on the streets would haunt me, I never thought it would make any difference even if I tried to help a few of the hundreds of thousands of street children in Mumbai. I kept holding myself back from this enormous need standing out like a huge scar on the face!”
Yet the stories of rehabilitated children and reunited families is a beautiful testament to Biju’s heart to rescue the one. This Fall, Paul Andrew visited Biju in India and was greatly impacted by the work they are doing and the strength of their ministries in caring for individuals and transforming cities.
We’re excited for Liberty Church to hear from Pastor Thampy, as one of our key missions partnerships, about how Vision Rescue is transforming lives and paving the way for people to meet Jesus.
